Overview
Asahiyama Zoo is one of the main attractions in Asahikawa and is also known for being one of the most famous zoo in Japan.
The zoo is not particularly large, but it has become very famous for its environments that are close to their natural habitats, such as polar bears that are housed in an enclosure which has a glass bottom so that you can see them diving and swimming around.
Don’t miss daily penguin walk when they waddle along in front of the crowd like a tiny army. You can also walk through underwater tunnels as they swim overhead.
The zoo is 40 minutes away by bus from Asahikawa Station
